Thank you for choosing JJ Benson Inc. for your custom furniture piece. We are excited to provide you with quality custom furniture. As a valued customer, there are a few items concerning properties of metal furniture and art that may affect the appearance of the final product. We would like you to know what these characteristics are to ensure you are fully satisfied with your custom piece:

Common issues with metal and how to prevent them:

Our metalwork can be finished in a variety of ways, and because most of it is painted, minimal maintenance is needed. However, for polished or more rustic metal, a thin coat of wax may be required from time to time. It is best to wipe down pieces with a dry cloth or if necessary a damp rag or mild detergent for routine cleaning, but it is important to leave them dry and solvent-free. In addition, it is necessary to clean up spills immediately in order to prevent rust. Furthermore, in the pieces where we combine metals with other materials, there may be some different aging effects that are natural and are part of the design, however, these can be minimized through proper care and maintenance. Please feel free to contact us if you have any issues.

Maintain the look of the metal surface by periodically wiping it with a polishing cloth. Keep in mind that you should always follow the motion of the materials-just as when you are vacuuming a rug or even when you are patting your furry friend.

Cleaning and maintaining your metal should be performed only using soft polishing cloths. Over time, abrasive cloths will scuff and dull the surface. Furthermore, you should wipe down the surface by moving back and forth rather than in circles to maintain a uniform look and shine.

Use gentle cleaners that do not cause damage to your treasured piece being sure to wipe off the solvents when completed; aggressive cleaners can destroy it. As obsessive lovers of steel here at JJ Benson, we think this would be a disaster!

As your metal piece ages, its surface will naturally darken. If you wish to restore the surface to its original luster, we encourage applying an appropriate metal cleaner, following the instructions carefully as outlined in the product guide.

Our recommendation for removing fingerprints and smudges from uncoated metal is to use oil-based products such as baby oil or apply a thin coat of wax. With our stainless steel or coated metals, there is no need to provide additional protective coatings.

Finishes are susceptible to discoloration due to airborne particles such as cooking, grilling, smoke, fireplaces, candles, grease, etc…Prolonged exposure to natural or artificial light and/or moisture may also cause discoloration; as well as, the age of the metal.
